An Abandoned Church near Scott, Pulaski County

An Abandoned Church near Scott, Pulaski County

The sign above the door of this old church reads ldquo;Mine House Shall Be Called An House of Prayer For All People.rdquo; The church is almost entirely hidden by overgrown brush and weeds. In the summer, itrsquo;s nearly impossible to see the church from the road because it is hidden behind a shroud of vegetation.br/ br/We have been at war with nature in the delta for centuries. People have constantly tried to reign in nature by draining wetlands and tearing down forests. But the soil of the Delta is rich. So rich that plants will always recolonize land if given a chance. If left unchecked, plants will quickly overtake and subsume abandoned properties. Vines shroud the outside of buildings, while weeds and trees take hold even in concrete. The land will claim what we leave behind, reminding us that we are nothing more than intruders on the dirt.br/br/ br/ Taken: 2021
