Tucker Plantation House, Jefferson County.

Tucker Plantation House, Jefferson County.

Tucker is known as being the current location of a maximum-security prison, but it was once a large plantation that was established way back in 1871. The plantation grew mostly cotton and expanded to over 2,800 acres. In 1916, the state purchased the plantation lands and some surrounding areas and built the prison complex there. But a few signs of the old plantation remain, including the long abandoned ldquo;Big House.rdquo; The two-story home is enshrouded by trees and brush and is usually hidden from view. This is the view looking out through the backdoor of the home, looking towards the prison.br/ br/The house sits next to the ruins of the old plantation office, which also served as a store and post office. A few months ago, the roof of the old home collapsed. br/br/ br/ Taken: 2017
